Snap Bush Beans Mix seeds produce a vibrant blend of green, yellow (wax), and purple snap bean varieties grown together for a harvest that's as colorful as it is productive. Each pod is tender, crisp, and stringless at peak pick — a reliable mix suited to beginner and experienced gardeners alike. The purple pods turn green when cooked, making them a fun marker for doneness, while the golden wax beans bring a slightly buttery flavor alongside the classic green. Bush habit means no staking, no trellising — just tidy, compact plants loaded with pods.
Snap Bush Beans Mix reaches harvest in approximately 50 to 60 days from direct sow, depending on variety blend and conditions. Beans are a warm-season crop — sow seeds directly into the garden only after all frost risk has passed and soil temperatures have reached at least 60°F (15°C). Do not start indoors; beans dislike transplanting.
Choose a spot with full sun (6 to 8 hours daily) and well-draining, moderately fertile soil. Overly rich soil encourages lush foliage at the expense of pods. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, spaced 3 to 4 inches apart in rows 18 inches apart. Thin to 4 to 6 inches for best air circulation. For a continuous harvest through the season, make successive sowings every 2 to 3 weeks until about 8 weeks before your first expected fall frost. Bush beans are nitrogen-fixing — inoculating seeds with rhizobium inoculant at planting boosts yield, especially in new garden beds. Water consistently at soil level to reduce disease pressure.
Pods are ready to pick when they reach 4 to 6 inches in length and snap cleanly — the classic sign of peak tenderness. Check plants every 2 to 3 days once pods begin forming; regular harvesting signals the plant to produce more. Leaving pods to over-mature slows overall production significantly. The yellow wax beans offer a mild, buttery sweetness; the green types bring the familiar earthy snap bean flavor; the purple add a slight visual drama to the garden and the plate.
Use freshly picked pods raw in salads, lightly steamed, sautéed with garlic and olive oil, or blanched and frozen for later use. Blanched beans store well in the freezer for up to 10 months. Refrigerate unwashed, dry beans in a sealed bag for up to 5 days after harvest.
A productive, no-fuss mixed planting that earns its space in any kitchen garden and delivers color from garden to table all season long.
