Cherry Tomato Mix seeds bring together a curated blend of the finest small-fruited tomato varieties in a single packet — a rainbow of red, yellow, orange, and sometimes deep purple bite-sized tomatoes ripening across the season. Because this mix combines multiple indeterminate cherry tomato cultivars, you'll enjoy a progression of shapes, colors, and flavors from one planting, with round, grape, and pear-shaped fruits often appearing side by side on the vine. Expect flavor profiles ranging from classic bright-sweet to rich and tangy, all in one bed.
Days to maturity: 60–75 days from transplant, depending on the varieties in the mix. Cherry tomatoes are indeterminate, meaning plants continue to set fruit until frost rather than producing a single concentrated harvest.
Sun: Full sun, minimum 6–8 hours of direct light daily. Warm soil and consistent heat are key to strong fruiting.
Starting indoors: Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your last expected frost date, planting 6mm (¼ inch) deep in seed-starting mix. Maintain soil temperature of 21–27°C (70–80°F) for reliable germination, which typically occurs in 5–10 days.
Transplanting & spacing: Move seedlings outdoors after all frost risk has passed and nighttime temperatures stay above 10°C (50°F). Space plants 60–90 cm (24–36 inches) apart in rows 90–120 cm (36–48 inches) wide. As indeterminate varieties, these plants benefit greatly from sturdy caging or staking — plan for vines reaching 1.5–2 metres (5–6 feet) or more.
Soil & feeding: Rich, well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0–6.8. Work in compost before planting and feed with a balanced fertilizer once flowering begins, then switch to a lower-nitrogen, higher-potassium feed to support fruit development.
Fruits are ready to harvest when they reach full color and release easily from the stem with a gentle twist — no tugging needed. Regular picking every 1–2 days encourages continued fruit set throughout the season. Leaving ripe fruits on the vine too long can lead to cracking, especially after heavy rainfall.
Flavor: Across the mix, expect a range from candy-sweet to vibrantly tangy, with a satisfying pop of thin skin giving way to juicy flesh. The variety of colors also signals subtle flavor differences — yellow and orange types tend toward mild sweetness, while deeper red and purple-toned fruits often carry more complex, earthy notes.
In the kitchen: Perfect for snacking straight off the vine, tossed into salads, roasted whole with olive oil and herbs, or blistered in a hot pan as a quick pasta sauce. A colorful mix on the plate or platter needs no additional garnish.
Storage: Keep harvested fruits at room temperature out of direct sun for best flavor — refrigeration dulls sweetness and changes texture.
A mixed planting rewards both the eyes and the table, making it one of the most practical and visually satisfying choices for any home garden.
